L’annata 2003 - 4 stelle, andameno vegetativo e metereologico.
Un inverno molto piovoso fino all’inizio di febbraio, seguito da un periodo asciutto e freddo, ha permesso di terminare serenamente potature e lavorazioni.

I vigneti comunque hanno mostrato la loro capacità di resistere alla siccità per una vendemmia anticipata che ha dato vini strutturati, avvolgenti, con grande potenzialità. A seguito di queste condizioni, la vendemmia 2003 si è caratterizzata per il largo anticipo nella raccolta (dai 10 ai 20 giorni a seconda dell’età del vigneto, della zona e del terreno) e per la presenza di uve sanissime. Altissime quindi le gradazioni zuccherine.
Il sangiovese ha raggiunto un maggiore equilibrio soprattutto dove i terreni erano più freschi e le pareti fogliari più ricche.
Nel complesso si sono ottenuti vini meno profumati ma ricchissimi di colore e di grande concentrazione e corpo.
Le viti hanno evidenziato una fioritura ed una allegazione precoci. La gestione del suolo e delle pareti fogliari sono risultate di fondamentale importanza per il risultato finale e per la stessa capacità di reazione delle piante. Le situazioni difficili si sono avute per i vigneti giovani dove l’approfondimento radicale non risulta ancora ottimale e nei terreni siccitosi. Nel complesso si può parlare quindi di annata difficile, ma complessivamente da buona a molto buona.
